What is new

What changed since the previous version, per app. The newest one is at the top.

Web

2.6.1 (19 October 2026)

  • You stay signed in as long as you use the app. Before, you suddenly landed on the sign-in screen seven days after signing in, in the desktop app too, even if you used the app every day.

2.6.0 (15 October 2026)

  • A reminder in Chrome or Edge has buttons: mark it done, or remind me again in an hour.

2.5.9 (15 October 2026)

  • The trash now shows when you deleted each task, whenever there is room for it.
  • A markdown image in the title of a new task, with an exclamation mark before the bracket, keeps that exclamation mark. Before, it became a priority.

2.5.8 (15 October 2026)

  • You can pick several attachments at once. They are added one by one, and if one fails you see why for each file.

2.5.6 (15 October 2026)

  • When adding an attachment fails, Smallist now tells you why: your storage is full, or the task already has ten attachments. Before, you got a general error in both cases.

2.5.4 (13 October 2026)

  • After an update of Smallist, an open window reloads itself as soon as you click something. Before, you got a message that something went wrong, and trying again did not help.

2.5.3 (12 October 2026)

  • The emails from Smallist look different: the app icon at the top, the text as a plain letter without a frame around it, and at the bottom which address the email went to. Every button now has its link as text underneath, for when the button does not work in your mail program.

2.5.2 (12 October 2026)

  • Adding a passkey while you had been signed in for more than a day only said "Something went wrong". The app now tells you what is going on: sign out and back in, and it works. A passkey that already exists gets its own message too, and dismissing a passkey prompt no longer shows an error.

2.5.1 (12 October 2026)

  • When the connection drops, the app now comes back on its own as soon as the site is reachable again. In the desktop app the "No connection" message used to stay until you refreshed yourself.

2.5.0 (11 October 2026)

  • Checking off a task can now give a soft tick. The sound stays off until you turn it on in Settings, under Appearance, and it works in the desktop app too.

2.4.5 (11 October 2026)

  • The user guide and this page now look like the rest of the site too, just like the privacy policy. In a table on a phone, every value carries the name of its column.

2.4.4 (11 October 2026)

  • The privacy policy now looks like the rest of the site. The topics sit next to the text and show where you are, the menu at the top takes you to the user guide, what is new and the downloads, and on a phone the tables are readable instead of three narrow strips.

2.4.3 (11 October 2026)

  • The help, what is new and privacy pages and the preview of a shared link now carry the name Smallist everywhere. If you set up two-step verification again, the code in your authenticator app is called Smallist too.

2.4.2 (11 October 2026)

  • Smallist is now available as an app for Mac, Windows and Linux. You will find the downloads at smallist.app/download, from the front page and under Settings ‣ About.

2.4.0 (10 October 2026)

  • Nearly three times as many icons for your lists: 174 instead of 60, from pizza and dog to train and power drill. They come in ten groups with a heading, so you scroll through the picker instead of hunting.

2.3.5 (9 October 2026)

  • Right-click a task for a quick menu: complete, move to today, tomorrow or someday, priority, another list, tags or delete, without opening the task first. Backspace deletes the task that has focus; "Undo" brings it back.

2.3.2 (4 October 2026)

  • The sample list and sign-in form now sit on subtly offset sheets of warm, neutral paper instead of blue and lilac panels.

2.3.1 (21 September 2026)

  • The homepage now tells its story in three drawn scenes: writing it down, putting it in a row and letting it go. A little paper character waves at you next to the new headline "Write it down. Let it go." The sample list and the examples are still right there in between.

2.2.4 (21 September 2026)

  • New icon in your browser tab and on your home screen: a blue check on paper, the same as in the mobile app.

2.2.2 (20 September 2026)

  • The homepage now matches the sign-in screen: soft lilac and blue paper layers, calm cards and subtle pressable buttons. The sample list and interactive examples still work as before.

2.2.1 (20 September 2026)

  • Your account menu now sits at the bottom left, with Settings and Activity directly above it. Search has a calm, distinct background at the top. On mobile, search and settings share the top bar; open your avatar menu for calendar and activity.

2.1.2 (20 September 2026)

  • Search now sits at the top of the sidebar. The app no longer shows a logo in its header or a maker credit at the bottom, giving your lists more room. The maker credit remains in Settings.

2.1.1 (20 September 2026)

  • Smallist emails now look like the app: the same paper, the same lettering, and the checkmark with the name in the header. If your mail app reads in dark mode, the email follows.

2.1.0 (20 September 2026)

  • Your lists and settings now share the Smallist look: warm paper, calm controls and plain task checkmarks. Choose Notebook, Soft colour or Compact in Settings, with light and dark mode available for each.

2.0.3 (20 September 2026)

  • Browser tabs and the installed web app now use the beige Smallist icon, with the original lilac-pink checkmark.

2.0.2 (20 September 2026)

  • Sign in, create an account and reset your password on a calm paper card, with the same Smallist colours and lettering as the homepage. Your sign-in methods stay the same.

2.0.1 (20 September 2026)

  • The homepage has a new Smallist look: warm paper, soft colour panels and a sample list to try checking off tasks without an account. Quick add and the assistant connection also have interactive examples.

2.0.0 (20 September 2026)

  • The app is now called Smallist and lives at smallist.app. Your old address keeps working and sends you along.
  • A passkey belongs to one web address, so the ones from the old address no longer work here. Create a new one under Settings; signing in with your password works as usual.

1.26.0 (20 September 2026)

  • A task with a long link or a long word in its notes pushed the screen sideways: you could scroll through your own task and the fields slid half out of view. Long words now break. The same is fixed in your activity log and for the time zone picker in the settings.
  • On a phone the calendar header fits again: the day or week you are looking at is spelled out in full, and the arrows to the previous and next one sit below it instead of off screen.

1.25.0 (19 September 2026)

  • The Logbook now files finished work under the day in your own time zone. If you ticked something off late in the evening, it sometimes showed up under the next day. The same is fixed for "deleted on" in the trash, "archived on" in the archive, and the dates for your devices, sessions and passkeys in the settings.

1.24.0 (19 September 2026)

  • The quick menu (Ctrl+K, Cmd+K on a Mac) now knows your areas, your tags and your places as well: type the name and you jump straight there. The Areas, Lists and Tags overviews have joined the pages.
  • Every place now has its own screen with the tasks waiting there, grouped by list and with a block for what you already finished there. You open it from the quick menu, or in Settings with the arrow behind the place.

1.23.0 (17 September 2026)

  • Click an area in the sidebar and its lists now unfold in the column at the same time. Click the area you are already on and they fold back up. The AREAS, LISTS and TAGS headings do the same once you are on that overview. The chevron next to them still only folds and unfolds, without switching screens.

1.22.0 (16 September 2026)

  • Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) now also reverses an ordinary change, not just a deletion: a task you just ticked off is open again, a task you dragged to another list goes back, and a date or priority you adjusted returns to its old value. If you ticked off a repeating task, the next occurrence that appeared disappears again too. You get a short confirmation of what was reversed. It applies to your most recent change, for as long as you stay on the same screen.

1.20.0 (16 September 2026)

  • Throwing a tag away now asks first, telling you how many tasks carry it, and afterwards you get a few seconds to undo it. The tag then comes back on exactly the same tasks.
  • You can now change your email address yourself, under Settings in Account. You type the new address and your password; you then confirm the change at your current address first and at the new one after that. Your tasks, passkeys and devices stay with your account.

1.19.0 (15 September 2026)

  • Create places in Settings, such as Home or the supermarket, and pick one for a task. The app on your phone then reminds you of that task when you arrive or leave, and if you like only from the task's date. For now, searching for an address here only works for Dutch addresses.

1.17.0 (15 September 2026)

  • A connected assistant, such as Claude, can now also add, rename and remove areas, so it can organise your lists itself. When it removes an area, the lists in it stay.

1.16.1 (15 September 2026)

  • With a task open in the detail panel, changes from your phone or a connected assistant now show up right away in the title, notes, dates and other fields. Before, you had to open the task again.

1.16.0 (15 September 2026)

  • A connected assistant, such as Claude, can now also add, rename and remove headings in your lists. When it removes a heading, the tasks under it stay in the list.

1.15.0 (14 September 2026)

  • Create a task that is only a link and it gets that page's title, like the name of a YouTube video. The link itself goes in the notes.
  • Change the title of a task into a link in the detail panel and it fetches the page title there too.
  • A link in a new task stays whole. A word like "tomorrow" or "@name" in the address used to be read as a date or list and dropped out of your link.

1.14.0 (11 September 2026)

  • In the New window you can now also pick the heading your task goes under. The field shows the headings of the list you pick, and follows along when you type @list.

1.13.1 (11 September 2026)

  • Switch from Task to List and back in the New window, and what you already filled in is still there.

1.13.0 (11 September 2026)

  • Drag a task onto a list in the sidebar, or onto the Inbox, and it moves there. The list lights up as soon as you hover over it.

1.12.0 (11 September 2026)

  • You can now move a task to another list from the task itself: open it and pick where it goes under List. That used to work only by selecting it first.
  • A task you move to another list now lands at the bottom of that list, instead of somewhere random between the other tasks.

1.10.1 (10 September 2026)

  • Logging out now takes you to the sign-in screen in one go. The dialog no longer jumps back to "Log out", and the sign-in screen appears complete right away, without a half-empty card that opens up a moment later.
  • Switch tabs on the sign-in screen for a moment, say to your mail or your authenticator, and what you typed is still there when you come back.

1.8.0 (4 September 2026)

  • Type a task under a heading and send it to another list with @list, and it now actually ends up there. Your whole line used to vanish with an error.

1.5.6 (2 September 2026)

  • The title of a list or view no longer sits right on top of the first task: there is real space between the heading and what follows, so you can see where you are at a glance.
  • An empty list or view now shows a proper sheet of paper instead of a grey line.

1.5.5 (2 September 2026)

  • Opening a task no longer rebuilds the list underneath it. You keep your place, the row you click lights up straight away, and the side panel slides in beside the list instead of the whole screen appearing again.

1.5.2 (31 August 2026)

  • Signing out now also clears the pages saved for offline use, and they are cleared anyway as soon as someone else signs in. Your tasks no longer linger on a shared computer.

1.4.0 (31 August 2026)

  • The task detail panel saves itself. No more Save button, and picking a date or a priority counts right away instead of only after a second click.

1.2.1 (28 August 2026)

  • Click a row in the sidebar, or a task, and it lights up straight away, even before the screen arrives.

1.2.0 (27 August 2026)

  • You now choose when a reminder also arrives by email: always, only when no notification arrives, or never.

1.1.0 (26 August 2026)

  • The test notification now reaches the desktop app too, and counts it in the result.

1.0.0 (26 August 2026)

  • From this version on we keep track of what changes. This is the starting point.
  • Lists, areas, headings and subtasks, with drag and drop to order them.
  • The Today, Upcoming and Someday views, the Logbook, and a calendar with a week and a day.
  • Reminders by email and as a notification, repeating tasks, and a task with a time and a duration.
  • Tags, editing several tasks at once, search, and the command menu on cmd+K.
  • Notes with formatting, and attachments on a task.
  • Archiving next to the bin, and an export of all your data.
  • A lock over the app using Touch ID, a passkey or a numeric code.
  • Signing in with a passkey, two-step verification, and an overview of your devices.
  • Moving your tasks over from TickTick.

Mobile app

2.6.2 (28 October 2026)

  • Tapping a reminder now opens the task, even when the app was closed. Before, you sometimes landed on an empty screen.

2.6.0 (15 October 2026)

  • A reminder has buttons: mark it done, remind me in an hour, or tomorrow. On Android without opening the app.
  • A task's own screen now has a checkbox to mark it done.

2.5.9 (15 October 2026)

  • Notes are formatted, just like on the web: headings, bold, lists, links, tables and images.
  • A task with a time can get a duration, from fifteen minutes to four hours.
  • If a screen gets stuck, you see a button to try again instead of a blank screen.
  • An exclamation mark before a markdown image in a new title no longer becomes a priority.

2.5.8 (15 October 2026)

  • You can now add attachments on your phone too: from your files or your photos, several at once.
  • You can now remove an attachment on your phone too.

2.5.7 (15 October 2026)

  • Attachments on a task can be opened. Tap an image to see it full size, tap a PDF to open it in an app of your choice, such as your PDF reader.

2.4.0 (10 October 2026)

  • Nearly three times as many icons for your lists: 174 instead of 60, in ten groups with a heading.

2.3.0 (21 September 2026)

  • The app now shares the look of the website: warm paper, calm controls and plain task checkmarks. Choose Notebook, Soft colour or Compact in Settings, with light and dark mode available for each.

2.2.3 (21 September 2026)

  • New app icon: a blue check on paper, with a start screen to match.

2.0.0 (20 September 2026)

  • The app is now called Smallist. The store treats this as a new app, so install it again; everything you had is there as soon as you sign in.

1.23.0 (17 September 2026)

  • Tap an area on the Lists tab and its lists are open there when you come back. The chevron next to it folds them up again.

1.21.0 (16 September 2026)

  • You now arrange the bottom bar yourself: drag the four slots into order and put a smart list, one of your own lists, an area, a tag, a place, Search, the calendar or your activity in each. You set it up under Settings, in Appearance.
  • One slot can follow where you are: at the supermarket your shopping sits under your thumb, and at home it is back to normal. It uses the places you already use for location reminders.
  • A new screen per place: everything waiting for you there, in one list.

1.20.0 (16 September 2026)

  • Throwing a tag away now asks first, telling you how many tasks carry it, and afterwards you get a few seconds to undo it. The tag then comes back on exactly the same tasks.

1.19.0 (15 September 2026)

  • Location reminders: pick a place for a task, such as Home or the supermarket, and your phone reminds you when you arrive or leave, even when the app is closed. Turn it on in Settings, under Places.

1.18.0 (15 September 2026)

  • Share a link or some text from another app with Smallist, and a new task opens with it already filled in.
  • Put the New task widget on your home screen: one tap and you are typing your task.
  • Press and hold the app icon to go straight to Today or Search as well.

1.15.0 (14 September 2026)

  • Create a task that is only a link and it gets that page's title, like the name of a YouTube video. The link goes in the notes.
  • Change the title of a task into a link and the same happens.
  • A link in a new task stays whole, even when it contains a word like "tomorrow".

1.11.1 (10 September 2026)

  • With the keyboard open you can now scroll all the way to the last task, in your Inbox, in every list, in Today and in Someday. Before, the last tasks disappeared behind the keyboard.

1.11.0 (10 September 2026)

  • The button for a new task now sits in the middle of the bar at the bottom, on every tab. It no longer lies over your tasks, and you can now start a task straight from Lists and Search too.

1.10.1 (10 September 2026)

  • The keyboard now goes away when you scroll through a list. And tap the keyboard's tick while the line for a new task is still empty, and it closes as well; with text in it you simply carry on to the next task.

1.10.0 (9 September 2026)

  • The screens sit calmer: a list now starts on the same line as the title above it, the checkbox sits on the edge of the screen, and counts and dates all end in the same place. With the checkbox on the left, the text no longer shifts to the right.

1.9.0 (9 September 2026)

  • A reminder at a moment of your own now works on your phone too: you pick the day and the time yourself, you can change them again later, and it works on a task without a deadline as well.

1.8.0 (4 September 2026)

  • Type a task in and the app now picks the date, time, priority, tag and list out of it on your phone too: "Milk tomorrow 9:00 !high". Underneath the line you see what it makes of it, before you press Enter.

1.7.0 (4 September 2026)

  • There is now a row at the top of a list where you type a task straight in. In a fresh list you could only add a heading before; now you simply put your first task in it.
  • Today and Someday let you type a task straight in as well, without opening the whole form. It lands in your Inbox, with today's date or as Someday right away.

1.6.6 (3 September 2026)

  • After you sign out, your password manager offers your login on the sign-in screen right away. It used to appear only after you tapped between the fields a few times.

1.6.5 (3 September 2026)

  • Under Settings, About you can now check for a new version yourself. Until now the app only looked when you closed it completely and opened it again.

1.6.4 (3 September 2026)

  • The sign-in screen puts you straight in the email field. Your password manager now offers your login right away after you sign out, instead of only after you tap between the fields.

1.6.3 (3 September 2026)

  • If you switch to another app while signing in, such as 1Password, your authenticator or your mail, the form is still there when you come back. A password filled in by 1Password now actually lands in the fields.

1.6.2 (3 September 2026)

  • When a new version is ready, Settings, About says so. Tap it and the app restarts with that version; otherwise it comes along on a later start.

1.6.1 (3 September 2026)

  • Pull Today, a list, an area, a tag or the calendar down to refresh it.

1.6.0 (3 September 2026)

  • The app now fetches improvements by itself, so you no longer wait for a new version in the store. They come along one of the next times you open the app.
  • Under Settings, About you can see which update this device is running.

1.5.4 (1 September 2026)

  • If you lost your connection while out and about, the app kept showing the old state until you reopened it. It now refreshes by itself as soon as you are back online.
  • The app now tells you when you have no connection, and that changes will not be saved until it is back.

1.5.3 (31 August 2026)

  • Your password manager (such as 1Password) now recognises the sign-in screen and fills in your email address and password.

1.5.2 (31 August 2026)

  • Signing in with a different account on the same device could briefly show the previous user's tasks. The app now wipes its local copy as soon as another account signs in.

1.5.1 (31 August 2026)

  • Opening a task's full history made the app freeze, and after that the task screen itself stayed broken too. Fixed.

1.5.0 (31 August 2026)

  • A list, area or tag now saves itself while you edit it too. Editing works the same everywhere in the app: no button, closing means you are done.

1.3.0 (31 August 2026)

  • A task saves itself while you edit it. No save button any more, so no more folding away the keyboard to reach one.
  • The buttons in the edit screens for a list, area and tag now sit at the top, where the keyboard cannot cover them.

1.2.0 (27 August 2026)

  • You can now choose here too when a reminder arrives by email.

1.0.0 (26 August 2026)

  • The first version in the Play Store.
  • Your lists, areas and tags, with Today, Upcoming, Someday and the Logbook.
  • Reminders as a notification on your phone.
  • A new task straight from the app icon, without opening the app first.
  • A lock over the app using your fingerprint, face or your device code.
  • Works offline: whatever you change on the go syncs as soon as you are back online.

Desktop app

2.5.5 (13 October 2026)

  • Linux: the app now also starts on systems without libfuse2, such as Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04. Before, nothing happened there when you opened the file.
  • Linux: signing in using your browser takes you back to the app. If that does not work on your system, the app says so, instead of leaving you waiting.

2.4.2 (11 October 2026)

  • Smallist is now also available for Windows and Linux, next to the Mac.

2.4.1 (11 October 2026)

  • The Mac app is signed and checked by Apple. It opens right away, without a detour through System Settings.
  • The app updates itself. When a new version is ready, it asks once whether it may restart. Under Help you will find "Check for updates…".
  • Signing in using your browser is better protected. An older version of the desktop app can no longer sign in again because of this: get the new version when that happens.
  • A link to another site always opens in your browser, also when the app is redirected there.

2.3.4 (9 October 2026)

  • The icon picker in Settings is gone. A chosen icon showed too large in your Dock and disappeared as soon as you quit the app. The app now has the same icon everywhere: the blue check on paper.

2.3.3 (9 October 2026)

  • The app has its own session. Signing out or switching accounts in your browser no longer signs you out here. After this update, sign in once more using your browser.

2.2.4 (21 September 2026)

  • New app icon: a blue check on paper, the same as on the site and in the mobile app. If you picked your own Dock icon, it stays.

2.2.0 (20 September 2026)

  • Pick the app icon you want in your Dock: eighteen variants under Settings, in Appearance. The choice applies to this computer.

2.0.0 (20 September 2026)

  • The app is now called Smallist and opens smallist.app. Download the new version; you sign in here once more.

1.1.0 (26 August 2026)

  • Reminders now arrive straight away instead of up to five minutes later.
  • The test button in Settings tells you whether they arrive on this computer.
  • You can switch notifications off here, in Settings or in the menu under the icon in your menu bar. The number of tasks due today stays on the app icon.

1.0.0 (26 August 2026)

  • The first installer for Mac, Windows and Linux.
  • Signing in happens in your own browser, so with your password manager and your passkeys.
  • Reminders arrive as a notification from your operating system, even after your machine has been asleep.
  • A lock over the window using Touch ID.
  • The app updates itself whenever the website is updated. A new installer is only needed when the shell itself changes.
